Tour of Pendle, 19 November 2016
Race Report by Jo Daniels
Snow, sleet, mud, wind, rain, fog, bogs, hills to crawl up and slide down, and rivers to cross! All part and parcel of the Tour of Pendle fell race on Saturday 19th November. The challenging weather conditions meant that the brave souls who took to the hills were treated to an even more challenging course than usual, covering about 16 miles over rough ground in some of the harshest conditions the year has yet thrown at fell runners. Todmorden Harriers were well represented at the event, with a dozen runners on the pre-entry list.
The most notable performance from the Tod stable came from Graeme Brown. He finished in an excellent 7th place, claiming many notable scalps from the fell running world in the process. He finished ahead of, among others, the legendary Ian Holmes and rising star of the scene Tom Addison. The ever modest Graeme said of his performance “I just had a good one.” This is not only an excellent individual performance but shows the growing strength and depth of the Todmorden Harriers club. Coupled with the club’s huge success in the local cross country leagues, this certainly bodes well for the new year!
