There was a great turnout of twenty seven Todmorden Harriers for the first fell race in their club championship: The Stanbury Splash. This 6.7 mile race from Penistone Hill Country Park, outside Howarth, certainly lived up to its name. With high winds and drenched ground, there were skidding descents, splashing puddles and several river crossings which due to their engorged nature were treacherous, and required runners to hold onto each other to stay upright.
Andrew Worster had a great run to finish third in 46.42, followed by Dom Leckie in 54.05 (21st) and Nick Barber (22nd) in 54.09. Annie Roberts was first Tod woman home in 56.31 and third woman overall. Rebecca Patrick was first vet 50 in 64.54 and with Annie and Mel Blackhurst (67.32) took the women’s team prize.
