Road Race Championship

The club’s road running championship kicked off a couple of weeks ago.

It started big with the Haweswater half marathon. Starting and finishing in the village of Bampton, the course is run along quiet country roads along the remote and dramatic shores of Haweswater reservoir in the lake district. If running along the banks of a reservoir sounds easy, then beware! There’s a surprising amount of climbing, roughly 280meters!

There were 15 Toddies on the start line and some plenty of impressive performances – notably Darren Shackleton in 10th place amongst the field of 416 and Janine McGregor-Stead, 2nd FV40.

The second round of the road grand prix was just two weeks later at the medium distance (just) Garstang Gallop. This undulating 7 miler tempted 21 Toddies out on a crisp late winter morning. 1st home for the club was (again) Darren Shackleton who narrowly missed out on a podium place in 4th overall. An excellent run from Emma Kerwin saw her first back for the Tod ladies earning 21st place in a field of 127.
