88 runners braved the weather on Saturday morning to take part in the 53rd ‘Race You To The Summit’ run. The race started off many years ago as a bet between friends to see if anyone could run to the White House Pub, near Blackstone Edge and back within half an hour. Now in its 53rd year and a few tweaks to the route, the race starts and finishes at the Summit Inn, Littleborough. With the distance only just over 4 miles, it still has nearly 900 feet of climbing. Andy Ford was the first Toddy back, finishing in 4th place overall with a time of 33.39. Peter Kerridge grabbed the vet 55 prize with his broken hand after slipping during the race. He still managed a pint and a meal at the pub afterwards before heading to the hospital! Sally Chesworth was the first Lady Toddy back with a time of 47.59 and Jane Leonard won the female Vet 60 prize in a time of 50.17. Rick Parrish had to work hard throughout the race as he battled with the same runner throughout and ended with a sprint finish to finish just in front of the other runner. Also, a special mention For Stuart Wolsenholme who ran a Parkrun before the race and the went to Bolton to take part in the Red Rose Cross Country race. 3 races in a day! Full Toddy results…..
