Cowm 5km Trail Race, Tuesday 18th April 2017
Race Report by Jo Daniels
The race was billed as The Peter Erhardt 5km Trail race in recognition of Peter’s outstanding contribution to athletics. The ever popular race series comprises 2 laps of Cowm reservoir on a relatively flat course. The weather and the surface underfoot led to some impressive times. The race brought out strength in numbers from Todmorden Harriers, with no fewer than 30 Toddies lining up at the start – over a third of the field. There were fine performances aplenty. Notably, Andrew Worster finished second overall just behind the race winner Alex Whittam of Calder Valley in 16:22. Worster crossed the line in 16.34. Second Todmorden Harrier home was Chris Goddard, 7th in 18.33. The womens race was won by Sue Becconsall of Bingley Harriers in 19:57, and Mel Blackhurst was the first Todmorden lady across the line in 21.14. Second lady home was Kate Mansell, 36th place overall in 22.18.
