Devon Coast to Coast Ultra
Report by Lucy Hobbs
Louise Greenwood from Todmorden Harriers conquered the inaugural Devon Coast to Coast ultra, 117 miles along the Erme – Plm trail and the 2 Moors way, and from Wembury Beach on the south coast to Lynmouth on the north coast, crossing Dartmoor, mid-Devon and Exmoor.
In a freezing cold headwind on Dartmoor, terribly wet underfoot for the whole race, with ankle deep mud for most of it Louise truly conquered a beast of an ultra. There were blizzard conditions on Exmoor as night was falling. Louise finished 2nd lady in 37 hours 40 mins. Truly tough conditions with almost 50% of runners failing to finish. Jackie and Phil Scarf from Calder Valley also ran, Phil finished in 35 hours, but unfortunately Jackie had to pull out at 80 miles after struggling with an injured knee for most of the race.
