A mix of runners from Todmorden Harriers, CVFR and Rossendale set off from Shap in the Eastern Lake District, traversing the entire lake district, heading for Wasdale in the West over 2 nights in a low-key, self-supported event. Runners were free to choose their own routes, with points up for grabs for peaks bagged on the way. For some, this was a fantastic (and character building) introduction to the murky world ultra-running and long-distance hiking, but everyone held their own in extremely wet weather conditions to make the traverse safely. John Allan and Kirsty Patten teamed up to claim the most peaks bagged for the weekend, earning themselves a free pint from organiser Darren Graham. All in all, the event proved to be a hit, with next year’s traverse set to be even wetter as runners head for Wales.
