Beautiful weather greeted 13 Todmorden Harriers who entered Kentmere Horseshoe, the 4th English Fell Championship race of 2014. The first couple of miles of this 12 mile race climb to Buck Crag followed by fast undulating terrain until the 1 mile descent back into Kentmere when the heavens opened providing a welcome cooling shower for the athletes. Melanie Blackhurst took the plaudits for Tod’s performance of the day with a fine 4th place in the ladies V45 category. Paul Brannigan was first harrier back in 1 hour 52 mins in 82nd place scoring valuable points with 6th place in the V50 category. Other notable performances were Kath Brierley’s 7th place in the ladies V50 category and John Allan in his first Kentmere race breaking the much sought after 2 hour barrier alongside the more seasoned Ben Crowther. David Leslie and Peter Erhardt, both in their sixties completed the challenge in an admirable 3 hours.
