The fifth race in this year’s Trail Championships saw 23 Toddies head over to Middleton on a sunny Wednesday evening for some fast (or not so fast) running. The 5.5-milecourse comprised two laps around lanes and woods with a gentle uphill first half and a lovely downhill second half through the woods back to the sports centre at the finish.
Janine McGregor Stead took the prize in the ladies’ race, and along with Emma Fiedler who had a great race in 3rd, and Katie Samuelson in 10th, Tod took home the ladies’ team prize as well.
Among the men, Duncan Cannon was first home for Tod in 10th overall. Nick Birchill continued his great season, leading Janine over the finish line with an overall position of 22nd and Mark Anderton claimed 1st V60. Also Darren Gillman deserves a notable mention for getting round this course – and looking fresh as a daisy – after running the Lakeland 100 at the weekend!
The race was the 5th counter of 6th in the club’s Trail Championships. This is a competition where only runners who have not previously won any club prizes are eligible to win. With one race to go, Dom Leckie has a commanding lead in the men’s competition, while Katie Samuelson’s Hopwood performance has edged her ahead of Katy May in the ladies’ competition.
