Hoofstones Fell Race – Report by Jo Daniels
A new event hit the local fell running scene on Saturday 17th July, with the inaugural running of the Hoofstones fell race – the brainchild of Todmorden Harrier runner Dan Taylor. The challenging 8 mile course tested the runners’ navigational skills across open moorland as well as their fitness levels. All runners were rewarded with a bottle of real ale at the finish.
The event was won by Ben Crowther of Tod Harriers who set the course record of 1.08.10 for future years’ runners to challenge. The second man home for Todmorden was Darren Graham, who also claimed the V40 prize. He finished 4th overall in 1.12.38. Along with Matt Annison in 8th Tod took the team prize home. Jane Leonard took the honours of first Todmorden lady. She took 1st place in the FV50 category (15th overall) in 1.34.17. First Vet 50 was Bob Halstead and first V60 David Leslie both of Todmorden.
