Todmorden’s Grand Prix continued on Saturday with the Grisedale Horseshoe Fell Race over in Glenridding, Lake District. The race is also part of the English Championship so a strong field of runners was guaranteed on the day. The race is a 10 mile route with over 5000 feet of climbing which climbs steeply towards the iconic Catsycam summit, and then heads towards the summit of Helvellyn via the rocky scramble of Swirrels Edge. From this point, runners can breath a bit more as the skirt past Nethermost Pike and Dollywaggon Pike before the steep, grassy descent towards Grisedale Tarn. From here, runners climb steeply to St Sunday’s Crag before ‘enjoying’ a long steep descent to the valley and the last climb over towards the the finish back in Glenridding. 13 Toddies were among the 306 runners who started the race and Andrew Worster and Annie Roberts were the first male and Female back for Todmorden, finishing high up the rankings (12th for Annie and 13th for Andrew).
