With some early worries over the timing of Storm Otto passing over, the club hosted its annual Flower Scar race this weekend. Fortunately the strongest winds of the storm had passed by Saturday morning which left a fine but blustery day for the race. The weather was no barrier to Chris Holdsworth who smashed the course record by over 4 minutes completing the race in 01:02:37. First woman home was Hinda Hardaker in 01:20:56
There was a fine selection of flapjack on offer to all runners at the finish line followed by chilli & brews in the Cricket Club. Prizes were awarded to the 1st 3 male & female finishers & all category winners from V40 up to V75. There were also a number of spot prizes which were mainly monopolized by Leeds University Orienteering & Fell club who had a number of runners getting a prize for completing their first fell race, and all the U23 & U21 prizes.
In our attempts to be more environmentally responsible for the things we do, we have calculated the Carbon Footprint of putting on the event and part of the entry fees is being used to offset this by purchasing trees.
The race was brilliantly supported by club members both on the hill and back at base, without whom we could not have put on such a great day.
In total 189 runners took part in the race.
Full results from Tod members were:
64th Andrew King 01:30:02
95th Mark Anderton 01:35:02
106th Matthew Grey 01:35:59
130th Toby Leckie 01:41:53
159th Sophie Cunningham 01:52:21
