Report by Rob Tyson
Cannonball Events hosted a three day competition, from 12th-14th August, with three races combining the disciplines of road, trail and fell running. These races are short and sweet, and allow runners to explore the varied trails, fells and roads in and around Shore, a place entitled a ‘runners paradise’ by Cannonball.
The Shore road race was on the Friday comprising 4.35 miles with 98 meters of ascent. Two Todmorden Harriers were flying the flag with Richard Butterwick coming 5th in a very respectable time of (00:27:34); Myra Wells the second Toddy home was 26th with a time of (00:48:07). On Saturday the Watergrove Trail race took in 4.55 miles over 125 metres of ascent. Richard Butterwick was one of the few who decided to participate in all three events and for this second race he managed 7th overall with a time of (00:32:51). Sunday’s Sheep Fell Over fell race took in 3 miles and 194 metres of ascent, where Richard came 6th with a time of (00:22:01), placing him a brilliant third overall. Ian Stansfield of Tod Harriers also made a show and came in at 32nd with a time of (00:55:44).
