Todmorden Harriers’ Paul Brannigan placed second in the Sowerby Scorcher race on Saturday. The sun shone on the 6.4 mile race that contained fell, road, trail and swarms of flying insects enjoying the start of summer. Brannigan was in a break away group of 4 runners and by half way Dewsbury’s Chris Williams had opened up a gap of a minute. Brannigan made is move on the last mile and a half of descent reducing the gap to 18 seconds, but it was Williams who took first place in 39.50. Todmorden’s Reg Czudek finished 98th in a field of 131 runners.
