Race Report by Jo Daniels
Todmorden Harriers were out in force at the 35th Blackstone Edge Fell Race last week. The Harriers put in a stellar performance with five runners finishing inside the top ten. Andrew Worster finished 2nd in 30.55, just 10 seconds behind Danny Hope from Horwich. The women’s race was won by Lindsey Oldfield from Calder Valley in 40:12.
The Todmorden vets then came in tightly packed behind the young guns: Jon Wright came in 6th (33.19) with club chairman Nick ‘Youngbull’ Barber just 2 seconds behind him. Graeme Brown came in next in 8th position (33.39) with Ivan Gee descending well behind him to complete the top four quintet in 9th position (33.57) There was the usual range of fantastic prizes on offer; toilet rolls, paint brushes, dust pan and brush. The prize list is one of the trademarks of the race organiser, Kevin Shand. Kate Mansell was the sole Todmorden Lady at the event, taking 55th place in 44.17.
