Towneley Park 10k, 23 July 2017
200 runners were greeted with perfect racing conditions on Sunday morning for the 11th race in the Pendle & Burnley Grand Prix: 15 degrees C, bright and still. The race starts with a loop inside the park before heading out onto the road for the familiar anti-clockwise circuit of the park via Walk Mill and Mereclough. It isn’t a PB course, with half the distance uphill, including the brutal climb up Mount Lane, but there is enough downhill after the 6k point to make times more or less respectable.
Three Harriers ran: Matt Flanagan, finishing as first MV45 in 39:49 for 20th, Richard Butterwick in 42:06 and Myra Wells in 63.40. Race winners were Danny Collinge of Clayton in 35:03 and Louisa Powell-Smith of Ribble Valley in 39:54. Photo by David Belshaw.
